Warrant scam resurfaces

Kalamazoo County resident have reported being called and threatened unless they pay fines for outstanding warrants. The callers are identifying themselves as members of the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office administrative team and threatening residents that they have a warrant for their arrest. They are then instructed to avoid being arrested by paying their fines with gift cards.

This is a common scam that reappears periodically and the Sheriff’s Office would remind everyone to simply hang up on these calls. If you wish to verify if the call is real, you make contact the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office at 269-383-8723 during normal business hours (Monday - Friday 7-4).

A common indicator of a scam is that the caller will give instructions to purchase gift cards and read the numbers to them. Other common scams include calling and claiming your grandchild is in jail or stranded in a foreign country, or your computer needs repair. If you are still uncertain about the call, we remind you to check directly with family, friends or your local law enforcement agency to verify if the call is legitimate.
