Sheriff Fuller Encourages Safe And Fun July 4th

I wish everyone a safe and fun holiday weekend.  This weekend we will see friends and families getting together to enjoy the nice weather, possibly go boating and skiing, and using fireworks.  While doing all of these different activities, try to remember our fun should not interfere with another person’s enjoyment of the holiday weekend.

While boating, follow the rules of the lake.  Do not boat too close to others or cause wakes in no wake zones.  Don’t use alcohol or other intoxicants while boating and always wear proper personal flotation devices for your safety.

Fireworks will be a big part of this weekend’s activities.  Remember not everyone enjoys fireworks and they can cause distress for those not prepared for the sudden loud noise associated with fireworks.  Babies, toddlers and pets could become anxious and sleepless due to the fireworks you set off.   Make sure children are supervised in the use of sparklers.  Watch for fire hazards while setting off your fireworks and remember to not use alcohol or other intoxicants while setting off fireworks.

Every year the emergency rooms see an increase in visits this weekend due to the use of fireworks.  Sparklers and firecrackers are the leading cause of injury related to fireworks.

Please help make this weekend one to remember for all the fun you have and not due to an emergency.

Happy 4th of July America!
