Service is FREE for Kalamazoo County residents except for Climax Township.

Other participating municipalities with FREE service to residents include Berrien County; St. Joseph County; Almena and Antwerp Townships in Van Buren County.

Residents in a nonparticipating municipality may use the HHW Center for a fee plus the cost of disposal.

Payment by check or credit card is due at time of service.

The HHW Center is located at 1301 Lamont Avenue, Kalamazoo Michigan 49048 on the northwest corner of the Kalamazoo County Fairgrounds. The HHW Center is on the same street as the Sheriff's Department and Animal Services. Map to HHW Center

During inclement weather Kalamazoo County may choose to close all county programs. Call 269-383-8742 for an updated recording if you are unsure. The HHW Center may also close due to unforeseen circumstances such as power outages.

A large variety of items are accepted at the HHW Center, however, check out our complete lists (Do Take) and (Do Not Take) before you pack up your vehicle. The HHW Center will NOT take latex paint, smoke alarms, medication, microwaves or used sharps. If you have any questions, call us at 269-383-8742.

The HHW Center will accept materials from small businesses, schools, places of worship and non-profit agencies located in Kalamazoo County. Check out our complete lists (Do Take) and (Do Not Take)

A Very Small Quantity Generator (VSQG) registration and certification form must be on file with our office. A VSQG Inventory form is also required. We can email both forms to you!

• Medicated ointments, lotions, drops
• Unopened Epi-pens
• Liquid medications

The Red Med Box will NOT accept:

• Sharps, needles, lancets
• Thermometers
• IV bags
• Bloody or infectious waste
• Hydrogen peroxide
• Business waste (nursing, group home, clinic)
• Personal care products (shampoo, lotion, cream
• Empty containers
• Aerosolized inhalers (e.g. Ventolin, Albuterol)

Pesticides are collected free of charge through the Clean Sweep Program.

Who can use the program?
Any Michigan homeowner, farm, greenhouse, nursery, golf course, or other end-user of pesticides can use this service.

What can I bring?
Old, unwanted, out-of-date, unusable or banned pesticides are accepted. Banned pesticides such as DDT, Chlordane, Lindane, older Woodlife wood preservative, 2,4,5 -T and Lead Arsenate are especially welcome.

How much can I bring?
There is no limit, however, if you have large quantities of pesticides (150 pounds or more) please call and make an appointment.

Is there anything not accepted?
For residents or businesses outside of Kalamazoo County, you may bring only pesticides. No fertilizer, spreader sticker, paint or other chemicals are permitted.

To recycle triple rinsed pesticide containers, contact the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development by calling 517-284-5612. You can also contact the current vendor directly: Container Services Network 866-225-6629.
